How to Use Grid, Ruler, Zoom, Pan, and Bleed Controls

Product Editor can include extra viewing tools that help you inspect the layout without changing the design itself. These controls are especially useful when you want to check alignment, spacing, or edge-to-edge artwork.

Common view controls

  • Zoom: Look more closely at small details.
  • Pan: Move around the design while zoomed in.
  • Grid: Check alignment and spacing.
  • Ruler: Review positioning more precisely.
  • Bleed or print-safe guides: Understand where artwork may be trimmed.

What bleeds mean

A bleed is extra artwork that extends past the final trim edge. If your design goes all the way to the edge, the image or color should continue beyond the trim line so you do not end up with an unwanted white edge.

Helpful tips

  • Turn on guides when you are checking alignment, then turn them off for a final natural-looking review.
  • If artwork is meant to reach the edge, do not stop it exactly at the trim line.
  • Use zoom for inspection, but always do one last review at a normal size before ordering.
